Children are invited to take part in a FREE sensory-led tour and drawing workshop with artist Teresa Doyle.

Athlone Arts & Tourism, which operates Luan Gallery, Athlone Castle Visitor Centre, and Abbey Road Studios & Community Space in Athlone will host free children’s workshop as part of Threads of Place project. This collaborative visual arts project connects contemporary creative practice with Athlone’s rich cultural and historical heritage.

Taking place at Abbey Road Studios on Saturday 18 July, from 11:00am – 1:30pm, we invite children from ages 8yo to 12yo to take part in a free workshop led by artist Teresa Doyle as part of Athlone Arts and Tourism’s Threads of Place Community Project.

This workshop will be preceded by a sensory-led drawing tour at Luan Gallery, during which children will have an opportunity to experiment with different drawing styles and techniques inspired by the current solo exhibitions FIELD STATIONS: CORNAFULLA by Amanda Ralph and STATES, STATIONS by Samir Mahmood.

The group will then visit Abbey Road Artists’ Studios for a still-life drawing session using artefacts from Athlone Castle’s handling collection, with a special focus on life in the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries.

Spaces are limited, and booking in advance is essential.

This event is supported by Westmeath Arts Office and Creative Ireland 2026 Community Grant.
