Terms & Conditions of Purchase

These terms set out the basis on which you can purchase and redeem tickets for your visit to Athlone Castle Visitor Centre.
Athlone Castle Visitor Centre is managed by Athlone Arts and tourism Ltd., a company established, funded and owned by Westmeath County Council.

Ticket sales

The management reserves the right at all times to refuse admission. By purchasing tickets for Athlone Castle Visitor Centre, you acknowledge that you have read and agree to be bound by and subject to the following Terms and Conditions and have read and agree to the use of the information you provide us with.

  1. Once your tickets have been purchased, the ticket is non-changeable and non-refundable except at the absolute discretion of Athlone Castle Visitor Centre management.
  2. Once purchased, a ticket(s) must be redeemed within the date clearly stated on the ticket.
  3. It is the sole responsibility of the ticketholder to check opening times of Athlone Castle Visitor Centre.
  4. All prices are quoted in Euro.
  5. Whilst we reserve the right to increase or decrease our prices at any time before you book, once your booking is confirmed the price of your booking as stated in the confirmation email will not be altered.
  6. Children under 4 go free when accompanied by a parent or guardian. The “Kids go Free” promotion does not apply to educational, school groups or groups arriving by coach.
  7. Athlone Castle Visitor Centre reserves the right, in its absolute discretion, to refuse entry on to or remove from its premises or the vicinity any person who:
    1. Has been convicted of a criminal offence, which, in its opinion, is likely to affect the safety or enjoyment of other visitors.
    2. Has behaved in a manner or is likely to affect the safety or enjoyment of other visitors.
    3. Has used threatening, abusive or insulting words or behaviour or in any way provokes or behaves in a manner which may provoke a breach of the peace.
    4. Is thought to be under the influence of alcohol or other substances.
  8. Save as otherwise permitted by Athlone Castle Visitor Centre, all persons entering must pay for admission. Any person attempting to gain admission without a valid ticket may be ejected.
  9. Smoking is strictly prohibited within all indoor areas and the outdoor areas of the castle compound i.e. courtyard, battlements, green areas, entrance ramp.
  10. Any behaviour likely to cause annoyance to other visitors or confusion of any kind is not permitted. Visitors are expected to respect and conform to local laws and customs. If, in Athlone Castle Visitor Centre opinion, a visitor is behaving in such a way as to cause danger, distress or annoyance to others or damage to property, he/she may be removed from the site without refund. In addition, he/she must meet any expenses incurred as a result of such behaviour.
  11. We endeavour to provide a safe and healthy environment for visitors within the constraints of an historic property and as far as is reasonable and practicable.
    Please be aware that there are uneven surfaces, steps and some low doorways on site to negotiate where care should be taken by all visitors. Children should be supervised at all times.
  12. Climbing of approaching ramp or any of the castle walls is strictly prohibited.
  13. We will use all reasonable endeavours to ensure that Athlone Castle Visitor Centre and all of its exhibits/displays are open for use by visitors during normal opening hours. However, we reserve the right, in its absolute discretion, whether for safety reasons or otherwise and with or without prior notice to close Athlone Castle Visitor Centre or any part of it. In the event of such closure, we will refund any visitor the cost of his or her prepaid ticket. Otherwise we shall have no liability whatsoever, including no liability for travel expenses or any other out of pocket expenses in respect of closure of part or all of Athlone Castle Visitor Centre.
  14. From time to time Athlone Castle Visitor Centre or other authorised third parties may carry out photography or other recording at the venue and any images or recordings may feature visitors. Visitors consent to the use of such images by Athlone Castle Visitor Centre in connection with advertising, promotions or monitoring and acknowledge that the copyright in such images rests with Athlone Castle Visitor Centre and/or any authorised third party. If you do not wish to be photographed or filmed please let a member of staff know.
  15. Athlone Castle Visitor Centre, its employees or agents shall not be liable for any loss or damage, direct or indirect, howsoever arising.
  16. Athlone Castle Visitor Centre is suitable for all ages. Children under the age of 16 must be accompanied by an adult aged 18 or above whilst visiting the visitor centre.
  17. Pets or animals (with the exception of guide dogs, hearing dogs and other certified service animals) are expressly prohibited within the visitor centre.
  18. If for some reason you are unhappy with any aspect of your Booking with us, we ask that you write to us, care of Athlone Castle Visitor Centre, St. Peter’s Square, Athlone, Co. Westmeath or by email to [email protected]. Where possible, please quote the relevant Booking Reference Number and provide all other relevant information.
