Athlone Castle hosts free events for children to celebrate Cruinniú na nÓg on Saturday 15th June
Athlone Castle will host two events for children for Cruinniú na nÓg on Saturday 15th June 2024, as part of the national programme of activities. Cruinniú na nÓg is a day dedicated to enabling children’s and young people’s creative potential. These events are free and are presented with support from Creative Ireland and Westmeath County Council.
Athlone Castle’s historic courtyard will provide a backdrop for a wonderful performance from the talented young people of Athlone Youth Orchestra at 1.45pm. Formed under Westmeath Music Generation, Athlone Youth Orchestra is an inclusive and welcoming space for children to learn music and perform for audiences with friends and family. Their repertoire includes popular movie themes and classical greats, from JS Bach to James Bond and everything in between. This promises to be a magical event for all ages to enjoy.
The ‘Bee Our Guest’ workshop will be held in Abbey Road Artists’ Studios, located about a 10-minute walk from Athlone Castle, during which children will build pollinator-friendly bug hotels to focus on fostering and developing their creativity as well as providing shelter for bugs and butterflies. This workshop is facilitated by local artist Mimi Seery, who will will guide the children through the entire process in a fun and interactive manner while explaining the importance of preserving native Irish insect species and their role in everyday life.
This free workshop is currently fully booked, but please contact [email protected] or call 090 64 42130 if you would like to be added to a cancellation list.
