Athlone Castle is delighted to be offering a busy and exciting schedule of free events for Culture Night 2024 on Friday 20th September.
5.30-8.30pm – Drop in to Athlone Castle Visitor Centre for the last chance to see the temporary exhibition featuring children’s artworks inspired by the Historical Garden at Athlone Castle.
5.45pm – Join our Cultural Assistants for a Guided tour of the Historical Garden at Athlone Castle. (Please note this tour is weather dependent)
5.30pm – Travel back in time and discover the rich history of this important stronghold at the self-guided tour of Athlone Castle Visitor Centre. (Doors close at 8.30pm)
6.45pm – Immerse yourself in history as we showcase The Battle of Ballinamuck outdoors on the big screen. This is a documentary retelling of the story of the 1798 Rebellion, the town of Ballinamuck and its people who made a brave stand against British forces. The film includes interviews with prominent historians and large scale recreations of the battle itself. The film was produced by award-winning film production company Harp Media (Lakelands).
