Most children in Westmeath know the story of the Great Siege of Athlone in 1691, where Jacobites and Williamites fought ferociously for months. Do you know what happened on Easter Sunday in 1690?

The story will premiere on Athlone Castle’s social channels on Sunday 4th April at 10am.

Competition Time!
After you watch Fia Rua’s story you can draw a picture of the Easter Bunny’s adventure at Athlone Castle. Send us a photograph of your artwork and you will have a chance of winning a very fluffy Easter surprise!
Terms and Conditions:
Children participating in our Easter competitions are invited to submit photos of their work by email to [email protected] . The Athlone Castle team will form a panel comprised of staff from the castle and gallery to select the winners.
The event will culminate with the announcement and display of winning works on the Athlone Castle website and throughout our social media platforms.
Competition Entry Criteria:
- All photos of Easter Trees to be sent in via email to [email protected]
- All entries must include name and age of the child
- All entries must include the name and telephone of a parent/guardian
- All entries must be original and entirely the child’s work
- All entries must be submitted before or on Tuesday 13th April
- No late submissions will be accepted
- Only one entry may be submitted per child
Start Date: Sunday 4th April
Closing Date: Tuesday 13th April
The winners of each competition will be announced on Thursday 15th of April and will receive a prize
