Experience the magic of Christmas at Athlone Castle
Athlone Castle will transform into a magical Christmas experience on the 13th, 14th and 15th of December this year as we welcome Santa and Mrs. Claus who are excited to meet lots of children from Athlone and the Midlands.
Families are invited to join us and celebrate Christmas with all the charm and atmosphere of a historic castle. During the visit, Santa’s helpers will greet families at the entrance to the castle courtyard before checking in at reception. Families will then make their way through and enjoy the seasonally decorated visitor centre with many festive fun activities along the way, including Christmas crafts, games, dress-up areas, and popular Christmas music. Santa’s helpers will guide families to our magical castle grotto, where Santa Claus will wait to meet all the children and give a special gift to every child (0-12 years old). Children will also meet Mrs. Claus, who will regale them with her favourite Christmas stories from the Castle Keep.
Hot chocolate with marshmallows will be served in the castle courtyard to keep everyone nice and cosy before they finish their visit. Photo opportunities will be aplenty so you can treasure these special memories forever.
Prices:
• Child Ticket (Ages 3 years +) €25.00 pp (includes a gift from Santa, a certificate, Christmas crafts and hot chocolate)
• Toddler Ticket (Ages 0-2 years) €15.00 pp (includes a small gift from Santa a certificate and hot chocolate)
• Adult/Teenager Ticket €5.00pp (admission and hot chocolate)
A third-party booking fee is applicable on all prices outlined above. Tickets for this event are non-refundable and not for resale by third parties.
Please Note: All children must be accompanied by an adult.
Please note that bookings are only available online and a booking fee will apply. Entry will only be available 15 minutes before the pre-booked time. Each family will have 5 minutes with Santa. To combat delays, we will strictly adhere to this time limit.
As it is an extremely busy time for Santa, we kindly ask you to take note of the time booked. We advise that you arrive 15 minutes early to allow time for check-in. Entry will only be available 15 minutes before the pre-booked time. Please be aware that if you miss your time, we may not be able to accommodate you at an alternative time.

Athlone Castle was first built to defend the crossing point on the River Shannon and evolved into a bold defensive structure over the centuries. Elements of the original castle can still be seen today.
We tell the story of settlement in this part of Ireland’s Ancient East, from the Neolithic period through Viking, and Medieval ages to modern life in Athlone.
