Athlone Castle, Luan Gallery and Abbey Road Artists’ Studios will once again open their doors to welcome all those interested in exploring our arts and heritage sites this Culture Night which takes place on Friday 19th September 2025. Culture night activities will commence with free entry to Athlone Castle Visitor Centre between 5.30pm and 8:30pm. There will be two guided tours of the Visitor Centre, Historical Garden and Wildflower Meadow beginning at 6pm and 7pm respectively.

Athlone Castle Visitor Centre and grounds will be closed from Monday 23rd to Friday 27th December inclusive, and will re-open on Saturday 28th December and Sunday 29th December 2024. Athlone Castle Visitor Centre and grounds will be closed on Monday 30th and Tuesday 31st December 2024, and will be open on New Year’s Day, Wednesday 1st January 2025. Normal Opening Hours resume from Thursday 2nd January 2025.

Memories of Life at Athlone Castle

Athlone Castle Visitor Centre is creating a record of the social history of the families who resided in Athlone Castle, that will form the basis of a temporary exhibition, entitled ‘Stories from Athlone Castle’ during this year’s Heritage Week in August. This oral history project will begin in June 2023 and culminate in an exhibition as part of an extensive programme of events celebrating Heritage Week from 12th to 20th August. ‘Stories from Athlone Castle’ project is supported by the Heritage Council under the IWTN Heritage Interpretation and Events Grants 2023.
